Book Blurb

Not all fairy tales are as simple as meeting your handsome prince and living happily ever after.

Nobody knows this better than Rebecca Sharp. She thought she met her prince at the tender age of eight. As their friendship grew stronger, childhood infatuation culminated into a desire for romance. But untimely circumstances shattered Rebecca’s dreams of true love and left her broken and alone. A fresh start was the only way she could close the door to her painful past. Now, harboring a dark secret, Rebecca has returned home to attend her ten-year class reunion, mostly to prove she isn’t afraid to see Jackson again.

Jackson Strickland had his own secrets, but his love for Rebecca wasn’t one of them. Tormented by the memories of the only girl he ever loved, his life spiraled out of control. When Rebecca unexpectedly returns, his life is shaken even more. No longer the young girl he remembered, she was a strong and beautiful woman. Despite his bitterness, he can’t resist her or the fire in his heart that’s been smoldering for the past ten years. But secrets from his past still haunt him and danger looms as a killer lurks.

Will they be able to overcome their past and risk everything for love?

I enjoy reading contemporary romance, love stories, and women’s fiction. Some of my favorite authors are Susan Mallery, Sandra Brown, Nicholas Sparks, Nora Roberts, Richard Paul Evans, and Dorothea Benton Frank. My bookshelves are filled with their books. These authors have each influenced my writing style, simply because their stories are the ones I enjoy most.

But if I had to pick just one favorite author, it would be the Queen Bee herself, the late Mrs. Dorothea Benton Frank.

After reading my first Dorothea Benton Frank novel, Isle of Palms, I was hooked. I fell in love with Mrs. Frank’s tart humor and strong female characters. Her stories are lighthearted and great beach reads. They also deal with families in conflict, so their plots are very relatable.

I was fortunate enough to meet Mrs. Frank at the Dorothea Benton Frank Fan Fest in April of 2019, just five months before her passing. She was as delightful as I imagined she’d be and a very gracious host. After dinner the last night of the event, we spoke briefly about my dream of writing. She encouraged me, gave me a big Southern hug, and told me to write my heart out and finish my book.

Her words inspired me and I continued to write. I finished my first novel in December of 2019, just three months after she passed away. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to gift her a signed copy. But I believe she’s looking down on me, and I hope she’s proud.

I think of Mrs. Frank each time I sit down at my laptop, and I will always credit her with being the author who most influenced my writing.
